Roger was never good enough to play the game, but served as a league umpire for 39 years, the last eleven of those in the Yorkshire League. He has many years’ experience as a cricket administrator and led the negotiations that resulted in the inauguration of the Yorkshire South Premier League. Roger worked in the civil service for 37 years before taking early retirement in 2012 and is the club historian at Hull Kingston Rovers RFC. He was appointed to the inaugural YSPL committee as chairman in 2015.
Steve two main areas of expertise are administration and scoring. For many years, Steve was secretary at Doncaster Town CC and was a member of the committee of the Yorkshire League, acting as its chairman over its last years. Steve is the ACO Regional Scorers Officer for the North, carrying out scorer training across the area, and is a respected voice on scoring issues. Outside cricket, he is a local government officer. Steve was appointed to the inaugural YSPL committee as secretary in 2015.
League compliance officer
Ray is the county Safeguarding Officer at the YCB, and within our League has responsibility for safeguarding and disciplinary issues. Another former Yorkshire League umpire, Ray was a noted wicketkeeper and captain at Askern MW and Rossington CC, where he lives. Ray is a former Police Inspector, a keen golfer and a long-suffering Doncaster Rovers supporter. Ray joined the inaugural YSPL committee in 2015.
Representative team manager
As an opening bowler, Mark played first class cricket for Derbyshire and had a distinguished career in league cricket in the Bradford, Huddersfield and Yorkshire Leagues. An experienced cricket coach, Mark is the team manager at Barnsley WMCC and was a long-serving member of the Yorkshire League committee. His vast knowledge of league cricket in the area is matched only by his enthusiasm and ideas. Mark joined the inaugural YSPL committee in 2015.
Gareth is the YCB’s Cricket Development Manager for South Yorkshire. Passionate about junior cricket, he is YCB’s lead manager for Chance to Shine and All Stars cricket. He has worked for YCB for 12 years and feels very lucky to be in a job he loves and where he can help young people to play the game. An opening batsman himself, he had a long spell with Treeton and now plays for Whiston Parish Church. Gareth was appointed to the inaugural YSPL committee as YCB representative in 2015.
Mick offered his services to Appleby Frodingham CC after his sons Jack and George went to play at the club. He combines the roles of general secretary, welfare office and first team scorer, as well as always being a willing pair of hands when there is something to be done. Having mainly played local evening cricket, he helps out the third team on occasions, bowling gentle off-breaks to a well-spread field. Mick is another former postman, now working for a transport firm. He joined the YSPL committee in 2016.
Under 19s co-ordinator
A very capable and experienced scorer with Sheffield United and now Whitley Hall. Andy’s hard work and infectious enthusiasm for his club and the game in general make him a very popular member of the League. Andrew runs the YSPL under 19s t20 competition and works for Sheffield Hallam University.
Vice-chairman and fixtures secretary
Matt serves on the committees of both our League and the South Yorkshire Senior league, where he is deputy Chief Executive and fixtures secretary. Matt is vice-chairman of the Oughtibridge club in Sheffield. With Roger, he represents the YSPL on the Premier Leagues Management Board. Matt is married with a daughter and, a chartered quantity surveyor and project manager, is now the Managing Partner for Yorkshire at Rider Levett Bucknall. He is also a diehard Wednesdayite. Matt joined the inaugural YSPL committee in 2015.
Paul played most of his cricket for Methley in the Central Yorkshire League, alongside spells with Oulton and Altofts. He joined the CYL committee, and ultimately became its’ Chief Executive. After retiring from playing he turned to umpiring, and joined the Yorkshire League in 2004. Paul is also the treasurer of the Yorkshire Leagues Umpires Association and the Premier League Management Board. He has worked all his life in the textile industry. Paul joined the inaugural YSPL committee in 2015.
Overseas liaison officer
As the chairman of Wakefield Thornes, Chris has overseen the rise of the club from the second tier of the Central Yorkshire League to Yorkshire Premier League Champions. Very knowledgeable in all aspects of the game, Chris is particularly experienced in the difficult area of overseas recruitment. Another keen golfer, Chris works for sports consultants Steve Wells Associates. He joined the inaugural YSPL committee in 2015.
From a large cricketing family, Chris is a two-club man, having spent his entire cricketing career with Kilnhurst and Treeton. He captained Treeton for over ten years in all, became first vice-chairman and has now taken over as club chairman. After a spell as a postman, chris now works for a large scrap metal dealer and is married with a little boy. Chris joined the YSPL committee in 2017.
Alex is a one club man who has loyally served Whitley Hall as a middle-order batsman, captain and committee man. He is currently the club’s junior co-ordinator and is an active fund-raiser for the club. Alex is the North Region Manager for Titan Interior Solutions and is married with a son and a daughter. He is another diehard Wednesdayite. Alex has invaluable knowledge and ideas about the game, and he joined the YSPL committee in 2018.
Andy is the chairman and groundsman at Wickersley Old Village, a club he served as a competitive opening bowler and captain. He now brings vast experience, knowledge and common sense to the YSPL committee, having joined the inaugural committee in 2015. Andy was inducted into the YSPL Hall of Fame for his distinguished service to Rotherham Town and Wickersley Old Village in 2017. Outside cricket, he is a contracts manager with the Mears Group.
