Jack Bland Trophy
This afternoon at Field Lane, Whitley Hall beat Wakefield Thornes by seven wickets to top the Western Group and reach next Saturday’s Jack Bland Trophy final.
After the home side won the toss and elected to bat, a second-wicket stand of 87 between skipper James Wolfenden and Jamie Howarth put them in a strong position. But as Thornes tried to accelerate in the later stages, wickets started to fall, with James Brown the pick of the bowlers, and the home side’s innings closed on 185-9. Matt Cartwright anchored Whitley Halls’ response with a fine unbeaten 60, sharing stands of 85 for the first wicket with skipper James Moorhouse, and an unbroken 74 for the fourth with Alex Fletcher, whose unbeaten 39 came off just 37 balls.
