The Viking Cricket Cup final between Wakefield Thornes and Whitley Hall takes place this Sunday, 25th August, at the Al-Murad Stadium, Elsecar, with a 12 noon start.
This is the first final between two YSPL teams, and the first appearance in the final for either side. To reach the final, Wakefield Thornes, who had a first round bye, beat Barnsley Woolley Miners (away), Tickhill and Doncaster Town (both at home); and Whitley Hall beat Wickersley Old Village, Stamford Bridge, Dunnington (all at home) and holders Woodhouse Grange (away).
The Al-Murad Stadium is no stranger to cup finals, and the club have considerable experience of hosting prestige games. There is plenty of car parking adjacent to the ground, there are bar facilities in the clubhouse, and there will be a bar-b-que, ice cream van and bouncy castle. A souvenir programme will be on sale for £2.
The game will be played in coloured clothing and using pink balls; and will be played to Royal London Cup rules, that include 40 overs per side, maximum eight overs per bowler, fielding restrictions, and free hits.
The Yorkshire South Premier League would like to thank the cup sponsor, Mr Jeff Wilson of Viking Cricket, for his generous support of the competition, and Jim Beachill, Andy Ivill and all at Elsecar CC for hosting Sunday's game.
