Congratulations to Sheriff Hutton Bridge and Woodlands on reaching the 2019 White Rose Yorkshire Premier League Championship Final. Both sides had comfortable wins in their semi-finals yesterday.
In the game involving YSPL champions Doncaster at Oakenshaw, the visitors made what at the time seemed a sensible decision to bowl first on a slightly damp pitch. But Woodlands' South African-born overseas batsman Brad Schmulian took the game away from the visitors with a brilliant 122. Schmulian received good support from Tim Jackson, skipper Cieran Garner and Liam Collins, as the home side posated a daunting 299-8. Bilal Anjam, with 5-43, was Doncaster's most successful bowler.
The visitors needed a strong start from their top three to mount a serious challenge but all three had fallen by the time the score reached 67. Wily old campaigner Chris Brice destroyed the middle order with 6-20 in 12 overs, whilst only James Stuart and Stuary Guy were able to offer much resistance for the visitors.
Up in North Yorkshire, Matthew Fisher's 87 was the backbone of Sheriff Hutton bridge's 208-9, a score that seemed well within the compass of the 2018 National Club Champions. But Edward Barnes and Fisher himself took four wickets each to devastate the Richmondshire innings - no batsman reaching double figures in their 42 all out.
We wish both clubs all the very best of luck for next Saturday's final at Headingley (10.30am)
